Bunkum & Ballyhoo

Way back when I began posting some non-wrestling entries on this blog under the heading “Bunkum & Bullshit”, I’ve talked about how I had been toying with adapting that idea and format into a podcast.

After a lot of false starts and deliberation, I decided to bite the bullet, and so today I can finally announce the release of Episode 1 of the rechristened Bunkum & Ballyhoo - the old title wasn’t great for podcast analytics!

It’s a podcast series in which I will look at showmen, con artists, grifters, hustlers, and other assorted liars throughout history - from professional wrestling to politics, from the sideshow to pseudoscience, touching on everything in-between.

In Episode 1, I revisit an old topic from the blog, as I give an overview of the life and times of South Africa’s Masked Marvel, Johannes Van Der Walt, and how a wrestling superstar became a martyr for a fascist movement.

Bunkum & Ballyhoo is available now on Spotify, Amazon, and Apple Podcasts, or anywhere else podcasts are found.

Subscribers to Patreon will get every new episode early, and always ad-free, plus any bonus content.
